& perhaps last pair of knit socks (almost) complete!

I have many years of experience in the art of crochet. All thanks to my very patient, loving & wonderfully talented mother who not only selflessly raised 7 children but also instilled in each of us an appreciation & love for all things art.

Knitting on the other hand is a newer adventure for me. My very first ever knit project was a cabled scarf. Being the adventurer I am, I decided on cables because well, that’s just how I roll. Although I do not possess any photographic evidence of that first knit project as I have since gifted it, you’ll have to take my word for it when I say it turned out beautifully. Therein began my love of all things knit.

Shortly thereafter I put the needles away for a while in pursuit of other craft & life related activities. I’ll admit I have a tendency to become bored very easily which is one of the reasons I enjoy a good challenge. The more frustratingly difficult the more appealing it is to me.

Speaking of challenges, just recently I was asked to knit a pair of socks. Hmmm never knit socks before but thought to myself ‘really how hard can it be
Turns out it’s actually not difficult at all. However, knitting a pair of socks is about as much fun as ….well I can’t even think of anything more tedious.
To say I am not enjoying knitting these socks would be a gross understatement. I should mention here that my dislike is in no way a reflection of the designer/artist of sock patterns or people who enjoy knitting socks. I’m guessing my lack of enthusiasm is completely a result of my need for instant gratification & lack of ability to sit still for long periods of time.
It is taking forever to complete this pair mainly because after finally finishing the first, I’ve been avoiding knitting the 2nd as though it were the plaque. My house is spotless but these socks are not done!
I actually contemplated shipping this one single sock & claiming the other must have been lost in the mail. Last night though I begrudgingly began working the matching sock to make up the pair.
I am counting down the hours to completion.
I’m pretty sure it is safe to say I will not be attempting any new knit sock projects for a while.
When if I do though, I have my eye on these amazing socks from 15 year old designer Josiah over at The Sock Monkey. .

My sister recently asked me to knit her a sweater. If anyone is looking for me I will be avoiding my sister like the plague……

Amiright? I mean my heart & good intentions were all in the right place when I decided to hand knit all of my Christmas gifts this year. Some of which not only had to be knit but also wrapped and then shipped to the lucky recipients. All of which takes time & unfortunately time was not on my side this year!
It’s all good though because as I procrastinated worked diligently in the days months before Christmas I found I had lots of beautiful yarn left over to make some matching mittens because who doesn’t like a nice set of matching winter wear? Ok, well me for one but I’m sure my grandchildren feel differently. Only time will tell…and by “time” I mean the time it will take me to actually finish these matching mittens ( I’ve made one single mitten thus far) & shipped them along with the hats to the kids for Christmas New Year or Valentine’s Day …..hmmmmm I wonder if these will fit them next year…..

Blocking one of the boys (aka incredible grandsons) Christmas gifts. A complicated simple (?) knit beanie.
Lovingly knit up using sock weight wool fiber in charcoal & the patience and perseverance of a saint.

I hope it fits the child in question & he likes it (a lot) because it took me a total of 72 hours to complete. Yeah, #knittinggrandmaproblems. Don’t ask. 😉

On to knit Christmas hat number three after a little yarn shopping for a more practical worsted weight in washable wool because this Gwams learns from her mistakes mishaps poor choices well meaning intentions 😉

Have you ever search hi-n-lo for that perfect knit/crochet pattern only to find ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I mean not one single pattern worthy of the fantastical idea you have in mind? Yeah, me too. Don’t get me wrong there are some gorgeous patterns available online & some are graciously shared for free by the artists. Just not the one I wanted today 🙂

I have an awesome original idea for a knitted cable pattern that has probably been made before but really wanted someone else an experienced knitter to provide me a free pattern. Ho-hum.

While I consider myself a newbie in the world of knit I have thrown caution to the wind and decided if I want something done right I’m just gonna have to do it myself. So that’s what I’m doing today!
If I am successful I will share the pattern on this blog to save others from similar expense aggravation.
Fingers & toes crossed (ew, right!)

Surely I am not the only crazy crafter working round the clock in attempts to get orders out before holidays creep up?! When I finally close my eyes at the end of the day I see blurry remnants of crochet & knit designs floating behind my heavy lids. Life is good.

I have a plan in mind for these lace crochet snowflakes. Hopefully I manage to put it all together before Christmas :/ I’m just really grateful I can still see well enough to actually work these tiny steel hook thread designs.

This is perhaps one of my favorite lace scarfs ever! Still working on the trim & loving every little detail of this soft & beautiful design.

What crafts are you feverishly working on?

Still need to tuck in loose strands, wash-n-block & make a 2nd to complete the pair…but hey, I’m impatient so……..

pattern will be available for purchase via Etsy soon 🙂

I’ve mentioned in my last post how I’ve spent some time testing & preparing a few of my original Off The Hook crochet/knit designs that will eventually make their way into my shop.

Recently while out shopping I came across some pretty crochet baskets & as tempted as I was to purchase a few the price tag was a little too steep for my taste. Of course as soon as I arrived home I made my own version & actually love it even more than the ones in the store.

While I’ve been away from the blogging world over the past several months I have managed to finish quite a few projects as well as grow in my craft….& life for that matter.
Its been a productive year for me but It is seriously so great to be back! I’m spending some time this morning enjoying my delicious homemade English muffin w/orange marmalade & steaming hot cuppa while catching up on all of my favorite blogs. There are so many wonderfully talented artists here….I am in awe of your beautiful work, words, incredible inspirations, talents and creations.

Here are a few quick (mostly ipad) snaps of just some of my yarn art from this past year.

I LOVE detachable crochet collars. Seriously it’s becoming a borderline obsession of mine. An OTHD original collar pattern worked up in colorful wool. Excuse me while I brag a moment…..I am quite proud of this design! It looks adorable on! It’s soft & comfy as well
